The "President of the World" Syndrome
If we listen to English students, they are the busiest people on Earth. They are busier than the President. They say, "Oh, I really want to learn English, but I have no time! My life is so crazy!" Then, they go home, sit on the sofa, and watch videos of cats falling off tables for two hours.
This is the "I Am Busy" lie. We all tell it. It makes us feel important. But the truth is painful: You are not too busy to learn English. You are just very good at wasting time. If scrolling through Instagram was a job, you would be a millionaire by now. You do not have a "time" problem; you have a "priority" problem.
The Scary Truth is in Your Pocket
Do you want to see a ghost? Open your phone settings and look at "Screen Time." It is terrifying. It says: "TikTok: 2 hours. Instagram: 1 hour. Games: 45 minutes."
That is almost four hours! In four hours, you could learn English, cook a dinner, and maybe even build a small rocket. But you chose to watch strangers dance on the internet. Next time you say "I have no time," look at your phone. Your phone knows the truth, and it is laughing at you.
How to Find "Hidden" Time
You do not need to quit your job to learn English. You just need to steal small moments. Here is how to be a time thief:
- The "Toilet University": This is funny, but true. You spend maybe 10 or 15 minutes in the bathroom every day. Do not play games in there. Learn five words. It is the most quiet place in your house. Use it.
- The "Waiting" Game: We wait for everything. We wait for the bus, for the coffee, for the dentist. Stop staring at the wall. Put headphones in and listen to a podcast. Turn "dead time" into "smart time."
- Turn off the Notifications: Your phone rings every 5 seconds. "Ding! New photo." "Ding! Someone liked your post." Turn it off. If you stop looking at your phone every minute, you will suddenly find an extra hour in your day.
Stop Making Excuses
Being "busy" is just an excuse for being lazy. If you really want to learn, you will find ten minutes. If you do not want to learn, you will find an excuse. So, put down the phone, stop watching the cat videos, and learn one verb. The cats will still be there tomorrow.
