Your Phone is an Honest Listener
When we speak English, we often wonder: "Is my pronunciation correct?" Friends might guess what you mean even if you make mistakes because they want to be polite. However, technology is not polite. It is honest. There is a simple tool on your smartphone that can tell you immediately if your English sounds clear. It is the "Voice Typing" or "Dictation" button.
Stop Typing, Start Speaking
Open your notes app or a WhatsApp chat with yourself. Usually, you use your fingers to type messages. Look for the small microphone icon on your keyboard. Press it. Now, instead of typing, speak your sentence clearly. For example, say: "I want to buy a red shirt." Watch the screen as the words appear.
Instant Feedback on Your Errors
This is the magic moment. If the phone writes exactly what you said, congratulations! Your pronunciation is excellent. But sometimes, the phone makes mistakes. You might say "sheep" (the animal), but the phone writes "ship" (the boat). This shows you exactly where your problem is. It means your vowel sounds are not distinct enough. The computer cannot guess; it only writes what it hears.
Practice with Tongue Twisters
To make this challenging, try reading a "tongue twister" to your phone. These are difficult sentences with similar sounds. Try to say: "She sells sea shells by the sea shore." If your phone writes the sentence perfectly, you have mastered the "S" and "SH" sounds. If the text on the screen is messy, do not worry. Try again, speak slower, and open your mouth wider.
This is a private and fast way to test yourself. You can do it anywhere, and it pushes you to speak clearly enough for a machine to understand.
