Why Reading is Great for You
Many students think that learning English is hard work. They think they must study boring grammar rules every day. But there is a fun way to learn. It is called "Reading for Pleasure." This means you read books because you enjoy them, not because you have to.
When you read a simple story in English, you see how words work together. You do not just learn a new word; you see the word in a sentence. This helps your brain remember the meaning better than a list.
The Golden Rule: Do Not Stop
When beginners read a book, they often make a big mistake. They stop at every new word to look at a dictionary. Please do not do this! If you stop every ten seconds, reading becomes boring and slow.
Instead, try to guess the meaning. If you understand the story generally, that is enough. For example, imagine you read this sentence: "John put on his coat and opened his umbrella because it was raining."
Maybe you do not know the word "umbrella." But you know "rain" and "coat." You can guess that an umbrella is something you use in the rain. This is how babies learn their first language. They guess!
Simple Steps to Start Today
- Choose easy books: Pick a book specifically for "A2 Level" or "Graded Readers." If the book is too hard, you will feel sad. If it is too easy, you will not learn.
- Read for 10 minutes: You do not need hours. Read a short story before you sleep.
- Read again: If you like a story, read it two times. The second time, you will understand much more.
Summary
Learning English is a journey, not a race. Find a story about cowboys, space, or love—whatever you like. When you enjoy the story, your brain opens up, and English becomes a part of your life, not just a school subject.
