The Problem with Translating
Many students have a big problem. When they want to speak English, they think in their native language first. For example, you see a car. You think of the word in your language, and then you change it to "car" in English. This is very slow. It makes speaking difficult and tiring.
To speak fluently, you must connect your eyes directly to English words. You need to remove the middle step. There is a fun and easy way to do this. It does not require a teacher or a book. You only need your imagination.
The "Movie Narrator" Technique
Imagine your life is a movie. You are the main actor, but you are also the "narrator." A narrator is the voice that tells the story to the audience. Your job is to describe everything you do, but you must do it in simple English.
You do not need difficult sentences. You only need to say exactly what is happening right now. Do this when you are alone at home, in your room, or walking on the street.
How to Start: Three Easy Steps
You can practice this technique for just five minutes every day. Follow these simple steps:
- Name the Objects: Look around your room. Say the names of things you see. "This is a table. That is a computer. This is my phone." This helps your brain remember vocabulary quickly.
- Describe Your Actions: When you move, say it. "I am walking to the kitchen. I am opening the fridge. I am taking the milk. The milk is cold." Use the Present Continuous tense (I am doing).
- Talk About Feelings: Describe how you feel simply. "I am tired today. The weather is hot. I am happy about this news."
Why This Works
This method is powerful because it is real. You are not reading a text from a book; you are speaking about your life. When you do this, you stop translating. You see the milk, and you say "milk." You do not think of the Arabic word first.
Start today. Be the director of your own movie. At first, it might feel strange, but after one week, you will see a big difference. The words will come to your mouth much faster.
