Stop Being So Nice!
In English textbooks, everyone is happy. "Hello, how are you?" "I am fine, thank you." Boring! Real life is full of problems, and problems are funny. A great way to practice your English is to become a "Professional Complainer." You do not need to complain to real people. You can write fake reviews for things in your house.
The "One-Star Review" Game
Go to Amazon or Google Maps in your imagination. Look at objects in your room and write a short, angry review about them. Use the Past Simple tense to say what happened, and use adjectives to say how you feel.
Example 1: Reviewing My Cat
Product: Fluffy The Cat
Rating: ⭐ (1 Star)
Review: "I ordered a best friend, but I got a lazy tiger. He sleeps for 20 hours a day. Yesterday, I bought him an expensive toy, but he played with the box instead. He does not speak English, only 'Meow'. I want a refund!"
Example 2: Reviewing My Breakfast
Product: Toast and Coffee
Rating: ⭐⭐ (2 Stars)
Review: "The toast was too crunchy. It made a loud noise in my head. The coffee was hot, but it did not give me superpowers. I am still tired. Not recommended."
Why This is Useful (and Fun)
When you complain, you use very specific words. You learn adjectives like terrible, horrible, slow, noisy, broken. You also practice connecting your ideas with words like because, but, and so.
So, today, do not write a diary about your "nice day." Look around, find something silly, and write a funny 1-star review. It feels good to be a little bit grumpy sometimes!
